High-pile fabrics for horse comfort and performance
British wool, polyester and blended pile constructions for saddle pads, numnahs, girth sleeves, rugs and specialist equestrian products.
What the fabric needs to deliver.
Jackson Textiles develops high-pile fabrics for close-contact and cushioning applications where resilience, moisture movement and comfort matter. Each construction is selected around the finished product and its pressure profile.
The contact layer should be developed as part of the complete equestrian product, balancing comfort, recovery, moisture movement and conversion.
Pressure distribution
A resilient pile can help spread load and preserve a cushioning layer within the finished product.
Moisture movement
Wool and engineered pile structures can support transfer away from the horse, depending on the total construction.
Temperature management
British wool is naturally breathable and can help manage the microclimate next to the horse.
Positional stability
The pile surface can contribute useful friction within saddle-pad and numnah constructions.
Recovery and durability
Fibre choice, density, pile height and backing are balanced for repeat compression and service life.
Where the fabric is used.
- Saddle pads and numnahs
- Girth sleeves and guards
- Half pads and corrective systems
- Horse rugs and therapeutic textiles
- Liners and comfort panels
- Bespoke equestrian product development
Four kinds of customer.
Saddle-pad brands
Develop a contact layer with a defined balance of pile, recovery, moisture handling and sewability.
Manufacturers
Receive repeatable roll goods supported by mill-led sampling and specification control.
Premium ranges
Use traceable British wool to combine natural performance with a credible UK manufacturing story.
Innovation teams
Trial several weights or wool grades before locking the finished-product specification.

A specification built around the application.
The design space below is indicative. The final data sheet is issued against the approved construction.
| Specification area | Jackson Textiles capability / typical offer |
|---|---|
| Construction | High-pile sliver-knitted fabric with pile, density and finish selected for the application. |
| Wool grades | Multiple UB constructions are available; exact grade is selected through sampling and product trials. |
| Fibre options | 100% British wool, polyester PET and wool/polyester blends. |
| Care | Wash treatment and care regime are agreed by construction. No fabric softener. Finished-product care must be validated by the brand. |
| Colour | Natural British wool shades and selected coloured options; PET colours can be dope-dyed at source. |
| Weight and pile | Developed to brief, including heavyweight constructions; mill capability extends to 3 kg per linear metre. |
| Finish | Sheared or tumbled, sherpa-style surfaces, subject to fibre and performance requirements. |
| Backing | Application-specific backing systems developed for dimensional stability, sewing and end-use performance. |
What stands behind the offer in equine.
100% British wool sourced through the British Wool network, with traceability from fleece to fabric.
Heavyweight constructions up to 3 kg per linear metre, developed to brief.
Fabric exported to customers in more than 40 countries.
What gets tested before approval
Finished-product care and the test protocol you set. The wash treatment and care regime are agreed by construction, then validated on the finished product by the brand; several weights or wool grades can be trialled before the specification is locked.
Development and order quantities
Made to brief, including heavyweight constructions up to 3 kg per linear metre. Repeatable roll goods supported by mill-led sampling and specification control.
The route is the same in every sector: define, select, sample, validate, approve, produce. How a development runs → · How the mill works →
